Private Drama Events was delighted to be approached by Land Securities and The Crown Estate to devise their experiential activations to help launch Westgate Oxford and the first 10 days of this exciting new shopping centre. Oxford has an abundance of stories and it was great fun for our creative team to work with Westgate to find memorable and immersive ways to tell them.

For example, James Sadler, an Oxford pastry chef, was the first Englishman in 1784 to make a balloon flight from Christ Church Meadow. We sourced our own James Sadler to fly under his balloon through Leiden Square. In addition we reinvented Lewis Carroll’s Alice to become “not the Alice you know”, styled by our costume designer Amy Jackson, shoppers can find Alice along with a whole host of immersive and historical activities in Westgate until November 2nd. A “down the rabbit hole” kaleidoscope is set up for shoppers to experience curious images of themselves and a “Cabinet of Curiosities” has been curated with unusual discoveries both from the Westgate building site and from local contributors. Finally, working with Flavour Sense Nation, Private Drama Events has devised a sensory explosion of flavours on the splendid rooftop of Westgate to further enhance the Alice “Eat me! Drink me!” theme.
