March saw us wave a fond farewell (although we haven’t gone far!) to the Beaufort Bar as we transferred our cabaret-based attention to the rather more traditional Thames Foyer to entertain those guests who opt for the ornate Edwardian setting over the decadent opulence of the black and gold Beaufort Bar.
Therefore from last Tuesday our songsters found themselves standing under “the Gazebo” – an elegant cage-like structure in the middle of the Thames Foyer that usually houses a lone pianist. With an audience now in every direction, a view of the entire length of the hotel, from foyer to River Restaurant and – by stretching the imagination – a stage to perform from, our wonderful singers have taken on the change with gusto, making full use of the gazebo area (as any good performer will!), and charming the guests as they enjoy supper, cocktails, or just a quiet evening with a newspaper and a cup of tea!
We hold our breath as we wait for the nod or shake of a head that will decide the cabaret’s future in The Savoy; will we remain to sing another day in the Thames Foyer, or will we dash back into the Beaufort Bar to take up our old, familiar spot? No two people seem to have the same opinion, but one thing is for sure; wherever they are, our wonderful musicians never fail to sound utterly fantastic!
